The computing resources of the society are provided for the benefit of its members. The following usage policy was created to ensure that the resources are not abused by some to the detriment of others. At all times, users must obey the law of the land as well as the terms of usage of NUI Galway Information Solutions and Services (ISS) and of HEAnet (Ireland’s National Education and Research Network). Just because you can do something, it does not mean that you may!
The committee of the computer society reserves the right to change this policy and associated guidelines at any time. It is the responsibility of individual users to comply with this policy and associated guidelines.
By using our servers you agree to the following:
Computer Society resources may not be used for the storage, downloading and/or transmission of copyrighted material without the copyright holders’ consent. Examples include: commercial software, music, games, videos, books, images etc.
Computer Society resources may not be used for the transmission or publication of material of a defamatory, offensive, discriminatory, obscene or indecent nature.
Users may not run peer to peer clients (p2p software) and/or other file sharing software. Examples include but are not limited to: kazaa, edonkey, BitTorrent, Freenet etc.
Users may not run permenant processes on the servers. This especially refers to distributed applications such as SETI@home, GIMPS Project (mprime), folding@home. If a users wishs to run a job for a long period of time, they must seek the express permission of the Chief Administrator.
