Free Computer Recycling Drop-Off Point (Camara) on Tuesday 6th June

18 Distillery Rd, NUI Galway (Beside Security).

PCs are recorded and a certificate of wiping of its hard drive will be provided by Camara. Computers are used in Education in Africa.

If you are available to volunteer between 10am and 2pm, please let us know by emailing and we’ll get back to you ASAP.

Usable Desktop Computers, Flat Screen Monitors, USB Keyboards and USB Mice are welcome.

Please note CRT monitors, printers and projectors are not accepted.

  • Each hard drive is erased using a US Department of Defence (DoD 5220.22-M) and NIST 800-88 compliant program that operates on a firmware level, making it impossible to retrieve any data.
  • If the hard drive fails during wipe it is physically removed, degaussed and crushed.
  • Data destruction service can alternatively be provided at customer’s site location for more than 50 Hard Drives.

Camara Drop-off Point in 18 Distillery Road, Wednesday 1st February 2017 from 10am to 2pm

NUI Galway CompSoc are starting up a monthly Camara Drop-off Point in 18 Distillery Road starting next Wednesday 1st February 2017 from 10am to 2pm. We are also looking for volunteers to help out for an hour between 10am and 2pm.

Generally, on the first Wednesday of every month, 10am-2pm, we hold a public drop-off for members of the community to drop-off their computer equipment. All computers, flat-laptops, monitors, and keyboard donations are welcome. They are then sent to Dublin to be wiped to military standards before being sent to schools in Africa.

We accept computers, flat monitors, keyboards, mice, laptops and servers. We are unable to accept printers, CRT monitors, switches, projectors.

Drive up Lower Newcastle Rd, in the direction of Moycullen. Turn right onto Distillery Rd at the AIB Newcastle Bank. This will bring you into the NUI Galway campus. After about 200m there is a turn-off to the left, towards the Kingfisher Sports Centre. Just before this turn-off, the Camara drop-off hub is situated at number 18; a bungalow on its own, on the left-hand side of the road.
